Shughart Middle Students Shine Their Lights
At the 2025 North Carolina All-State Middle School Honors Band Concert

Talent lives and breeds amongst the hallways of Shughart Middle School, especially in the Room C-403. This is the room of our very own Music, Band, and Creative Dance teacher Mrs. Whaley. Over the years she has worked with many students, who have gone on to do great things after they left the school. This year is no exception, with two of her 8th grade students being selected to be a part of the 2025 North Carolina All-State Middle School Honor Band. This band selects some of the best students from middle schools from all over the state. 8th graders Jack Hinshaw and Zayne Webb were selected to join the band after auditioning in March.Â
On May 4th, on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Jack Hinshaw and Zayne Webb were amongst the other 90 middle school band members from across North Carolina who participated in the concert. They were conducted by Cheryl Floyd, the Director of Bands at Hill Country Middle School in Austin, Texas. The concert also included the All-State High School and the Senior High School Honor Bands, which included high school students from all around North Carolina as well.Â
Congratulations to both our super talented 8th graders Jack Hinshaw and Zayne Webb for their contributions to the All-State Middle School Honor Band. They both represented Shughart Middle School very well as the only Blackhawks, and showed their Pride through their dedication, hard work, and determination.Â
