Creativity runs wild here at Shughart Middle School. For the months of February and March, students have had the opportunity to participate in the 2nd Annual Blackhawk Pottery Throwdown. This event is sponsored by the National Junior Art Honor Society here at Shughart Middle School, and spearheaded by our Visual arts and Ceramics teacher, Ms. Bradford. Students participating in the Pottery Throwdown, had to sign up and audition for it. There was a Pottery Boot Camp on February 18th and 20th. In the Boot Camp, Ms. Bradford was training the students on how to make, pottery as well as how to work the kiln.

After auditioning, students that were selected were allowed to come back to create their works. There were two competition days, where the students designed, molded, and shaped their pottery. The students will have time to glaze, and paint over their pottery. There is an upcoming spirit week that coincides with Youth Art Month, in which students will get the opportunity to vote on their favorite works, via penny votes. The winner will be the artist with the most votes. More to follow. Stay tuned.
